MP Motorsport have announced their second driver for the opening round of the 2021 FIA Formula 2 Championship with Richard Verschoor stepping up from FIA Formula 3.

The Dutchman raced for his compatriots in 2020, finishing ninth in the standings with a single podium to his name in the opening weekend of the season at Austria.

While initially Verschoor is only signed for the first round in Bahrain this weekend, there are intentions for the twenty-year-old to continue racing for the team throughout 2021.

“It’s happening. It’s race week! So grateful for this opportunity. Ready to hit the track with MP Motorsport in the Formula 2 series,” said Verschoor.

He will partner German F3 race winner Lirim Zendeli who has his MP Motorsport seat for the duration of the season and the duo were also paired during pre-season testing at the same circuit two weeks ago.

Verschoor’s 2020 teammate Bent Viscaal will also line up on the F2 grid this weekend as he earned himself a deal with Trident. Like Verschoor however, Viscaal’s deal to race is currently just for the opening round with a view to racing a full season.
