Mid-Ohio Sports Car course will introduce a new rallycross course for the 2019 season after signing a multi-year agreement with the Americas Rallycross series.

The IMG-led championship will host two rounds at the track in 2019, marking the first time the series has visited the midwest, and the first time Mid-Ohio has ever hosted rallycross. The first event will take place on June 8-9, with a second following on October 5-6, a week after ARX makes its return to Circuit of the Americas.

“There is no better way to introduce the sport of rallycross in America’s Heartland,” said Paul Bellamy, managing director of rallycross at IMG.

Partnering with Green Savoree Racing Promotions, an experienced motorsports management company, and our founding partner, Cooper Tires, at the historic Mid-Ohio facility creates a unique opportunity to connect with current motorsport fans in the area and create new rallycross and action sports minded fans throughout the Midwest.”

The purpose-built 0.7-mile course will be constructed in the existing ‘Keyhole’ section of the existing Mid-Ohio track and will feature 10-turns and a jump.

“Our team is excited to work with IMG to showcase world-class rallycross racing to our fans during the Cooper Tires ARX of Mid-Ohio,” said Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course President, Craig Rust. “It’s going to be a thrilling, action packed weekend with spectacular cars and great drivers.”

“This event will be the 2019 finale and cap off one of our most exciting and expansive spectator schedules Mid-Ohio has ever had,” added Rust.

Inaugural ARX champion Scott Speed, who will be defending his title with Subaru next year, has said he is looking forward to a new venue joining the rallycross landscape in the US.

“I think adding more rallycross tracks here in America really shows the growth of this sport,” said Speed. “I’m excited to come to a new venue. Mid-Ohio is a track that everyone knows here in America. I have no doubt it will be a great event.”
