MotoGP Legend Carlo Ubbiali, the first dominant 125cc and 250cc competitor, has passed away at the age of 90.
The Italian rider, who was born in Bergarmo in 1929, first took part in the World Championship in 1949, winning his first Grand Prix in 1950, just one year after joining.
In 1951, Ubbiali claimed his first championship in the 125cc class on a Mondial before switching manufactures after losing the title to MV Augusta rider Cecil Sandford in 1952.
Ubbiali moved onto the MV Augusta machinery in 1953 but it wasn’t until 1955 that he regained the 125cc championship title.
In 1956, the Italian rider participated in both the 125cc and 250cc classes where he became a double world champion in the categories, winning all but one of the 125 class and every race in the 250 class.
Ubbiali went on to add yet another 125cc victory to his impressive collection in 1958 before sending his career in incredible fashion with two more double title wins in 1959 and 1960.
The nine time world champion remains one of the most decorated names in the sport’s history.
