Rally Hungary in early-November that will feature both the ERC1 Junior and ERC3 Junior classes, with the event being held as a replacement for the postponed Barum Czech Rally Zlín.

A total of six events have been cancelled since the FIA European Rally Championship promoter Eurosport Events first presented the calendar for the Junior ERC 2020 season, but the class will now feature in Hungary as the sport begins to return following the COVID-19 pandemic.

This weekend, the series begins with Rally di Roma Capitale and less than a month later and at the third attempt, Rally Liepaja will be ran. Round three is then based out on the Portuguese archipelago of the Azores, with the postponed original season-opener at the Azores Rallye now taking place in mid-September.

The event is one of the three tarmac events to be hosted in this season, the stages are ran around the village of Nyíregyháza and the rallycross track of Rabócsiring.

“We are pleased to confirm the inclusion of Rally Hungary on the FIA ERC1 Junior and FIA ERC3 Junior calendars, restoring both to five events but with the opportunity for drivers to discount one result. We enjoy a strong partnership with the Rally Hungary promoter, Truck Race Promotion Kft, and we have every confidence in them and the ASN of Hungary, MNASZ, delivering a first-class event for our aspiring young drivers and their teams.” Jean-Baptiste Ley, the ERC Co-ordinator, said on the news.

“Last year there was an awfully exciting season in the ERC Junior category. I guess all of us remember the epic battle in which Chris Ingram lost by only two points or 0.3 seconds against Filip Mareš. So I came to the decision after cancellation of Barum Czech Rally Zlín that it would be a great idea to bring the ERC Junior categories to Rally Hungary.” Tamás Őry, the Rally Hungary promoter, added.

“We already wanted to do it last year, too, but there was no chance for it that time. However, now the international promoter, Eurosport Events, was open for the co-operation. From our side I think it is a huge success that we could bring another high-level series to Hungary, focusing on training the next generation of rally drivers.”

The championship will be completed by Rally Islas Canarias that plays host to the season-finale in late-November.
