GEOX Dragon Racing have announced that their test and reserve driver Sergio Sette Camara will step up to the race team for the final six rounds of the 2019-20 ABB FIA Formula E championship.
The 22 year-old Brazilian replaces the outgoing Brendon Hartley, who competed in five races for the team before splitting from them just weeks before the season finale in Berlin.
Speaking about Sette Camara’s appointment, owner and team principal Jay Penske said it was his new driver’s performance in the Formula E rookie test in Marrakesh earlier in the year that saw him promoted to the drive.
“I have been very impressed with Sérgio on track in Marrakesh, and in his work in the simulator with our engineers to continue to push the development of the PENSKE EV-4 package.” Penske said.
“I look forward to seeing him on track in Berlin, and I fully expect him to challenge for points in his first races with the Team.”
Sette Camara will combine his new drive with his reserve roles for Alpha Tauri and Red Bull Racing in Formula 1, and thanked Dragon Racing for giving him the chance to make his debut in all-electric racing.
“The team and I had really strong chemistry in the Marrakech Rookie Test,” he said. “We executed the program, and performed well, finishing the day P2.
“I am delighted to share the news that I will work with them again, this time in a race situation, which
makes it even more special.
“I want to thank Jay Penske and every member of GEOX Dragon Racing for giving me this opportunity.”
The team have announced that Joel Eriksson will remain on standby as their reserve driver in Berlin.
