Lewis Procter secured the opening pole position of the 2020 Intelligent Money British GT series, but only by 0.001 seconds in the championship’s tightest ever qualifying session.

Procter’s Optimum Motorsport McLaren 720S GT3 lapped Oulton Park one thousandth of a second faster than Jordan Witt 2 Seas Motorsport McLaren to take pole for the first of tomorrow’s two races by the tightest of margins.

Silver Cup McLaren entries dominated the first two rows as Angus Fender in the second 2 Seas McLaren lining up third, but he only had a tight 0.016 second gap over James Baldwin in the Jenson Team Rocket RJN example.

The first non McLaren was the Silver entry RAM Racing Mercedes AMG GT of Sam de Haan but he was over two tenths off of the British cars.

The first Pro-Am entry was RAM Racing team-mate Ian Loggie who qualified seventh behind all of the Silvers.

In the second qualifying session for Pro drivers, Phil Keen claimed pole for the third successive season at Oulton, but faced strong competition from Barwell Lamborghini team-mate Sandy Mitchell.

Silver rated driver Mitchell, who shares his Huracan GT3 with ex BTCC star Rob Collard, was only 0.066 seconds behind his more experienced team-mate at session close.

The second row of the grid filled by the two RAM Racing Mercedes with Yelmer Buurman edging out team-mate Patrick Kujala by 0.255 seconds.

The quickest McLaren was once again the Optimum Motorsport example but Ollie Wilkinson could only managed sixth fastest, 0.742 seconds off pole.

In GT4 defending champions TF Sport got off to a good start as Connor O’Brien backed up his free practice pace by claiming GT4 pole for Sunday’s first race.

The Aston Martin Vantage was always in control and secured pole comfortably by four tenths from Sam Smelt in the brand new Speedworks run Toyota Supra.

The Supra had impressed in practice setting the quickest GT4 time in Free Practice 2, but Smelt had no answer to the searing pace of O’Brien.

Patrik Matthiesen’s HHC Motorsport McLaren completed the top-three, just 0.153 seconds in front of the second TF Aston Martin of Daniel Vaughan.

TF Sport very nearly made it two from two, but Jamie Caroline fell just short from dethroning Euan Hankey‘s Balfe Motorsport’s McLaren 570S from pole coming up 0.027 seconds short of the top spot.

Jordan Collard managed to equal team-mate Matthiesen’s result to line up in third, while O’Brien’s team-mate Patrick Kibble lined up fourth.
