MSA Formula arrive at Brands Hatch for Title Shoot-out

1 Mins read

Going into the final weekend around the Brands Hatch GP Circuit, four drivers could still take home the crown of being the first MSA Formula champion, with 83 points still to play for.

Championship leader Lando Norris will go into Brands knowing a good set of results should be enough for the Carlin driver to claim the honours. Norris has taken the majority of the glory when it comes to qualifying though, with the Somerset-based driver having taken the fastest time, on four different occasions.

Norris is no stranger to race wins either, having taken the chequered flag on seven different occasions, more than any other driver in the field. Two of those wins were in the opening weekend of the season, when MSA was last at Brands Hatch.

While Norris may seem like the driver to have the upper hand, it has been Ricky Collard who has lead the majority of the season. With six wins so far, Collard has been the driver to remain the most consistent.

With only one finish not inside the top nine this year, the TRS Arden driver has kept pace, while Norris has slipped outside on four occasions. Of the two, it has been Collard whose proven himself to be better at working his way through the field, which may be useful come race day.

The two may be split by a 13 point difference, but a poor weekend for both could see them lose out, gifting the title to the two outside hopes. 13 points is also the amount Norris needs in order eliminate fourth placed Sennan Fielding from the competition.

While third place Colton Herta will also be focusing on winning the Nations Cup for the United States as they go into the weekend five points behind Brazil. They’ve been pushed to the top thanks to Rafael Martins and fifth placed Mathius Leist, who returned to his winning ways in Silverstone.

As for the Rookie Cup; Dan Ticktum still leads it by 50 points after the disqualification, but should reclaim the title if he races this weekend. If not, it could be a hotly contested battle between second placed, Enaam Ahmed and Sandy Mitchell, who’s only another eight points behind.
