Following withdrawals from the 24 Hours of Le Mans due to the Russian invasion of Ukraine, the Automobile Club de l’Ouest have reopened applications for entry to the prestigious race for 48 hours.

With the loss of G-Drive Racing from the 24 Hours of Le Mans, the 90th rendition of the race fell down to 60 entries, however G-Drive may not be the only team who withdraw from the race due to the FIA’s new sanctions. Open from Monday 7th March 09:00 CET, new applicants will be able to submit their entries for review until Wednesday 9th March 09:00 CET. The selection process post this time is unclear, with no announcement date for the new 62-car entry list confirmed.

The ACO wrote: “The 90th 24 Hours of Le Mans – the third round of the FIA World Endurance Championship – will take place on 11–12 June 2022. The list of the 62 cars and crews invited to compete in the race, scheduled to be revealed last week, will be released at a later date.

“Recent measures taken by international sporting bodies following the invasion of Ukraine by Russian troops affect motorsport teams and drivers. The Selection Committee has therefore decided to invite new applications for the 2022 24 Hours of Le Mans for a limited 48-hour period.

“Candidates must file their applications in due form and in accordance with statutory conditions from 3 p.m. on Monday 7 March until 3 p.m. on Wednesday 9 March.”
