Michelin Ginetta GT Supercup front-runner Matt Nicoll-Jones made an impressive guest appearance in the MaX5 Racing Championship last weekend at Cadwell Park.
The Academy Motorsport boss, who has taken two race wins in the Supercup so far this campaign, joined the grid in a mk1 Mazda MX5.
Despite it being his first time out in the car, Nicoll-Jones was instantly at home in the rear wheel drive MX5 and he stunned a number of championship regulars to take class pole and sixth overall for the opening race.
A strong race performance saw Nicoll-Jones in the thick of the action for the class win throughout the race, however a broken ball joint caused by a collision with one of the Cadwell kerbs hampered his charge, the former British GT4 champion being forced to settle for third in class behind James Harris and Liam Murphy.
Unfortunately for Nicoll-Jones, the damage could not be repaired in time for race two, leaving the 27 year old to watch the race from the sidelines.
The Cadwell weekend saw David Chapman crowned the 2013 series champion with a pair of victories, while Amy Barker secured the mk1 class title. More details on the championship can be found at: http://www.max5racing.com
