Jos Verstappen has said that going on what information he has heard, things are looking good for the four-time champions in respect to their 2017 challenger.
Red Bull Racing has been suggested as Mercedes AMG Petronas Formula One Team’s biggest threat ahead of the new regulations being introduced this season. And although Renault’s winter achievements are yet to be witnessed on the track, Verstappen’s comments air a confidence that teams are normally too reserved to display.
“We know from Max [Verstappen] that he always goes for the maximum,” he told Ziggo Sport. “You’re always dependent on the car, but I have a very good feeling about this as well.
“Red Bull has always been very strong in this area with new regulations. Aerodynamically there is a lot more possible. Based on the information we hear here and there, I have the feeling things are looking very good.”
Despite Max Verstappen demonstrating his hunger and drive to succeed in 2016, his father considers the championship to still be a year away at least.
“There is a lot of talk that he will win the championship and so on. My personal opinion is, and that’s my personal opinion, that it’s just one year too early,” he said. “I do think that the gap to Mercedes has to become smaller.
“Max has more experience now, he knows the tracks. Last year he won one race. I just hope that he can win a couple of more this year. Three or four races would be very nice. And this is possible! The expectations are very high.”
