40 Years of M
It has been a very dramatic year, where Bruno Spengler himself surprised a lot of people upon BMW Motorsport’s return to the DTM after a lengthy hiatus, not just once…
Since joining the DTM grid in 2005 Bruno Spengler was a Mercedes-Benz driver, collecting a fleet of runner-up spots in the championship. But with 2012 came a ‘new’ manufacturer to DTM and new a challenge for the 29-year-old.
It was 25 years ago, when BMW Team RMG’s Stefan Reinhold was watching the racing from the sidelines at the “Green Hell”, but this time around, as a DTM Team Principal, this will be a very emotional return for the German, as the team is based only 30 kilometres away from the Nürburgring.
The celebrations at the famed Nurburgring for BMW’s “40 Years of M” were completed in emphatic fashion, as BMW Team Schnitzer’s Bruno Spengler led from lights out to chequered flag. The 29-year-old Franco-Canadian had a faultless race for the 49 laps, with no real challenger in site, which was reminiscent of his first win for the brand earlier this season at Lausitzring.
