Due to the cap of four cars for the FIA European Formula 3 Championship, leading British squad Carlin are looking at possibly expanding into the EuroFormula Open championship in 2016.
Carlin supplied six cars to European Formula 3 in 2015 but will now have equipment sitting idle, and with EuroFormula Open running the current generation Dallara chassis, the team are looking into the possibilities of racing in the former Spanish F3 and European F3 Open series next season.
“Euroformula is a possibility,” revealed team boss Trevor Carlin. “We’ve got seven cars plus a spare tub.
“For some people it’s a big jump to European F3 now, but Euroformula is cheaper, runs on good circuits and is as close as you can get to a European F3 car, so why not?”
Should Carlin make the move into EuroFormula Open, they would join Team West-Tec F3 in fielding cars in both series, while race-winning EuroFormula Open squad DAV Racing are seeking to make a move in the other direction having made its intentions to join European Formula 3 in 2016.
