Ferdinand Habsburg topped all three collective test sessions at the Circuito de Jerez as the Austrian prepared himself for an important weekend of EuroFormula Open racing.
The Drivex School driver sits second in the championship with just this weekend’s races at Jerez and next weekend’s round at the Circuit de Catalunya to come, and needs to made good inroads on Leonardo Pulcini this weekend to put himself in a better position going into the finale to fight for the title.
Habsburg led series debutant Harrison Scott in the opening of the three sessions on Friday with a time of 1:35.834, 0.452 seconds clear of the Teo Martin Motorsport racer, while Colton Herta placed third, a further 0.167 seconds down.
Keyvan Andres made it two Carlin drivers inside the top four, 0.742 seconds down on team-mate Herta, while Tatiana Calderon was the leading of the RP Motorsport entries in fifth.
Habsburg again led the way in the second session ahead of Scott, although his 1:37.968 was just 0.042 seconds faster than the British racer this time around, while Pulcini took his Campos Racing machine into third, 0.201 seconds down on Scott.
Damiano Fioravanti was the best of the RP Motorsport drivers this time around, while another series debutant, Vasily Romanov, was fifth for Drivex School.
Habsburg made it a hat trick of session topping times with a lap of 1:37.919 in the final session, with Herta 0.472 seconds down in second ahead of Pulcini, Romanov and Campos Racing’s Julio Moreno.
