Fortec Motorsport have announced that 2011 Protyre Formula Renault 2.0 UK Finals Series Champion Oliver Rowland will graduate to the Formula Renault 2.0 Eurocup Series in 2012 with the Daventy-based outfit.
Sheffield-born Rowland enjoyed a superb maiden car racing season in 2011, winning four races on his way to second place in the CERTINA Formula Renault 2.0 UK Championship, picking up the Graduate Cup honours in the process. He followed this up with the Finals Series crown, which was recognised when he won the prestigious McLaren Autosport BRDC Award earlier this month.
Rowland has taken part in a number of successful tests with the Eurocup team, both at Motorland and Valencia, where he has topped the timesheets and impressed throughout. Rowland will contest the Eurocup series with full backing from the Racing Steps Foundation once again.
Formula Renault 2.0 Eurocup Team Manager Jamie Dye said: “Oliver has had a phenomenal year; he is an outstanding talent and the step up to the European arena seems like natural progression for him. He has performed extremely well in testing so far, topping the timesheets in almost every session, which is encouraging for next year. I'm confident that Oliver has exactly what it takes to challenge for the title next season and we're very excited to have him with us for another year.”
