Former single seater (and now also film) star Rob Austin moved his attention to the British Touring Car Championship in 2011, bringing his own exuberance – as well as bringing Audi back – to the series.

The former British Formula 3 race winner decided to make a jump with his own squad, Rob Austin Racing, into BTCC for 2011, having dabbled in many forms of motorsport with success including the British GT4 championship, Ginettas and Grand Prix Masters.

Austin brought an Audi A4 built to the championship’s newly-implemented NGTC regulations to the 2011 BTCC season, debuting at Donington Park and later expanding to a two-car entry at the final event, Austin picking up a podium at Rockingham that year.

The following season saw Austin shine as he and the developing Audi finished 13th in the championship after one podium finish at Croft, Rob Austin Racing finishing eighth in the team’s championship as they ended the season acquiring backing from Wix Filters.

The new sponsors continued to back the team again in 2013, Austin joined by former single seater racer Will Bratt.
