ES Racing entered the British Touring Car Championship in 2011, becoming an underdog sensation a season later in their currently brief BTCC career to date.
The squad came to the UK’s premier saloon championship in 2011 under Chris James, who had previously raced in the Mini Challenge before stepping up to the BTCC with is own ES Racing team, which entered with a single Chevrolet Lacetti.
The learning team and driver were backmarkers throughout 2011, but fortunes would improve in 2012 when ES Racing acquired two ex-Triple Eight Vauxhall Vectras, Clio Cup champion Dave Newsham also joining as the Independent team fought against the NGTC machinery with an S2000-specification outfit.
Newsham starred during the season despite that handicap by finishing ninth in the championship, claiming two victories along the way – more than Triple Eight themselves managed the previous season. ES Racing finished sixth in the championship in 2012 behind Triple Eight, before folding prior to the start of 2013 when Newsham left, despite the team hinting a return.
