Team HARD are the finished product of Tony Gilham’s BTCC exploits from 2012, expanding into the BTCC as a very welcome new full-time team for 2013 that have proceeded to bring new machinery to the BTCC grid.
Team-HARD was formed by an elite group, fronted by Gilham of whom raced in BTCC during 2011 (with Triple Eight) and 2012 (under his own banner, Tony Gilham Racing).
Gilham entered the 2012 season in an ex-Dynamics Honda Civic to try and take on the NGTC machines, and claimed an emotional podium sooner than expected at Donington Park – a podium he only got to celebrate at the following round at Thruxton due to an alteration in the initial results.
Gilham eventually finished 17th in the points as Team HARD finished 11th overall in the team’s championship on 100 points exactly, Gilham having also tried out several new drivers in the second half of the year.
After signing he experienced Tom Onslow-Cole for 2013 alongside UK Renault Clio Cup champion Jack Goff, Gilham’s organisation expanded and acquired two Vauxhall Insignias from Thorney Motorsport, also building two in-house created Volkswagen Passats to NGTC regulations, the car quickly showing its pace early in its maiden year with Onslow-Cole reaching the podium twice in the first half of the season.
