Daniel Welch’s family team have followed him through the TOCA support package to the British Touring Car Championship, racing under NGTC regulations since 2011.
Welch’s history has been made up largely of appearances in SEAT Cupra championships, beginning in 2007 and 2008 with Welch in the UK-based version of the one-make series, where Welch finished fifth and sixth in the championship with two wins in the first of those seasons before moving up into the international Eurocup series.
Despite only competing in the UK rounds at Brands Hatch in both 2009 and 2010, he claimed a victory in the second of those visits, alongside finishing 13th in the 2010 Spanish SEAT Leon Supercopa.
A move to BTCC was then worked hard on by Welch Motorsport, and their debut came at Snetterton 2011 with a new NGTC-specification Proton Gen-2, a 10th place at Silverstone their best result in what was a solid debut for a largely unknown car.
A Proton Persona for Welch in 2012 saw substantial progress made, a fourth place finish at Oulton Park sealing 15th place for Welch himself and a top 10 Independent team’s finish. The Persona and Welch remain in 2013, Welch Motorsport entering their second full season.
