Carlin announce Herta and Vaidyanathan for EuroFormula Open

1 Mins read

Carlin have announced that Colton Herta and Ameya Vaidyanathan will compete in their first EuroFormula Open championship season in 2016.

American Herta had originally been confirmed to race in the BRDC F4 championship but now switches to Formula 3 machinery in EuroFormula Open instead after impressing the team during testing.

“I’m really happy to be moving to EuroFormula Open,” said Herta, the son of former IndyCar driver Bryan Herta. “The F3 car is awesome to drive and although there will be a lot of new circuits for me to learn this year, racing on F1 tracks and historic circuits such as Spa will be fantastic.

“I’m very thankful to my sponsors for the opportunity and can’t wait to get started.”

Indian racer Vaidyanathan will compete alongside his own BRDC F4 commitments in EuroFormula Open in a bid to increase his learning curve in motorsport after debuting in 2015 in both BRDC F4 and MSA Formula.

“Testing in the BRDC F4 car has gone really well, and power wise it’s made the transition to the F3 car much easier,” said Vaidyanathan. “I want to get as much experience as possible and completing both programmes with Carlin means I can combine both championships in the most efficient way possible.

“It’s going to be an exciting season and I’m looking forward to official testing getting underway later this week.”

The team are expected to announce a third driver before the beginning of the season.
