After a strong start to the World Touring Car Championship season in Brazil, Tom Coronel is hoping to score more good results at the second round of the season at Zolder. The Dutchman considers the Belgian event to be his home round in the championship.
“Everything is set for a beautiful weekend,” said Coronel. “And I am not just talking about the weather, but also about the fact that Zolder is my home round on the FIA WTCC calendar. I expect to see many Dutch people on the grandstands and I will do my utmost to put on a good show and get a nice result. Potentially, that should be feasible, as we have already seen in Brazil.”
ROAL Motorsport driver Coronel posted the fourth fastest time in the Friday test session at Zolder, four tenths off pacesetter Gabriele Tarquini.
“I enjoy racing at Zolder, although overtaking there is not always easy,” said Coronel. “Tomorrow, I want to get a good position in qualifying, because the places you win there, you don't have to make up during the race. In free practice, I was on the pace, ending up fourth, four tenths of a second from the fastest time. The session was red-flagged twice, so we didn't have all the time to get things working perfectly.
“The BMW did great and I immediately felt at ease in the car. Given the start of the weekend, a podium finish should again be within reach and that is what we will be aiming at. And I hope that there will be many Dutch fans making the journey to Zolder to support me. I will do my very best not to let them down.”
