4. Enea Bastianini (Moto3)
MotoGP’s future lies in the thrill-a-minute mayhem of Moto3 and Catalunya showcased another teenager that will surely become a household name in years to come. 16 year old Enea Bastianini came agonisingly close to a sensational podium only to get outmanoeuvred and eventually unseated in a chaotic final lap but he wasn’t going to be denied this time.
Bastianini served notice that he could be a serious challenger by qualifying on the front row, albeit half a second behind the dominant Alex Marquez, and in the Grand Prix itself he showed his maturity by eradicating the tactical errors which arguably cost him in Mugello.
Starting the last lap in fourth, Bastianini fell back a spot under braking for turn one but a tremendous move around the outside of Romano Fenati at turn five brought him back into podium contention and when Niklas Ajo suffered a near highside moments later, Enea picked his spot to snatch a superb second place.
