MotoGP 2014: Dutch TT: Power Five

3. Alex Marquez (Moto3)

Moto3 has built up a reputation as the class to watch for tight finishes and multiple-rider photo finishes at the front of the field but Alex Marquez is doing his best to shatter that reputation. For the second Grand Prix in succession, the Spaniard has left the chaos behind and taken victory with consummate ease.

Marquez may have had a real fight on his hands had Jack Miller not crashed out from the lead at the start of lap two but in the Australian’s absence, the biggest threat came from Estrella Galicia teammate Alex Rins.

Rins kept his younger compatriot within sight early on and it looked as if his persistent pressure had paid off when Marquez overshot the first corner but the positions had been reversed once again by the Ruskenhoek corner on the next lap and that was the way it would stay until the finish.

Not only did Miller draw a blank, but Romano Fenati also failed to score after an awful morning for the Italian and as a result, Marquez now ties for second in the title chase, just seven points off the lead. On current form, he will take some stopping.
