2010 HSCC Formula Ford Champion Darren Burke completed a successful test for Team Parker Racing in a view to compete in the Porsche Carrera Cup GB in 2011.
Burke impressed in the test with team boss Stuart Parker explaining about the tricky switch from single-seaters to Sportscars. “Single seat racers have to spend time trying to re-learn the way they brake; in an open wheeled car, they are much more aware of when the wheels lock up under braking – they can see what is happening. In the Porsche, it all comes from the feel and the senses.”
Parker was delighted at how the test had gone: “Darren has had a truly fantastic day in tricky conditions and quite simply he’s gone out and excelled from the word go. He picked up the braking [techniques] within the first 30 minutes, listened and applied everything [from the analysis sessions].”
The session also saw 2007 Porsche Carrera Cup GB Champion testing the new 2011 Cup car on the Silverstone Arena GP circuit.
“He ended up on a very comparable time with James Sutton.” admitted Parker. “From the Team’s perspective, it was an exemplary first day at school”.
Following the successful test Burke will now head out on track again on 9 November at Brands Hatch in a second test for the team.
