Tio Ellinas set the pace on the first day of the final GP3 test of the year at Jerez in Spain.

The Cypriot racer, who was a race-winner in Formula Renault UK in 2011, was in action for the Marussia Manor Racing outfit. He went to the top of the timesheets with an hour remaining of the morning session – his time remaining the fastest for the duration of the day.

Just 0.050 seconds slower than Ellinas in the morning was Italian David Fumanelli, who made an impressive GP3 debut driving for MW Arden after finishing runner-up in the European F3 Open.

Ellinas' Marussia Manor teammate Matias Laine continued his improved post-season pace with the third fastest time of the morning, just 0.071s away from Elllinas. The second MW Arden car of Maxim Zimin was fourth, ahead of the man who beat Fumanelli to the F3 Open crown, Alex Fontana (Tech 1).

Romanian Robert Visoiu was the pick of the Jenzer Motorsport trio in sixth, ahead of Carlin's Tom Blomqvist, Valencia test pacesetter Daniel Abt (Lotus ART) and Tamas Pal Kiss of Atech CRS. Conor Daly rounded out the top ten, making his debut for ART after switching from his regular team Carlin for the day.

Fumanelli was able to turn the tables on Ellinas in the afternoon session by posting the fastest time, going nearly half a second quicker than Ellinas could manage.

Argentina's Facu Regalia was third quickest for Lotus ART, followed by Laine, Blomqvist and Abt. Gabby Chaves was seventh driving for Tech 1, ahead of Marlon Stockinger of Status and Zimin.

Completing the top ten was GP3 returnee Nigel Melker, who was working with new team Trident Racing. The Italian squad was making its first official appearance since taking over the Addax team's entry.
