Formula Ford Race-Winner Sutton Makes Clio Switch

1 Mins read

Ashley Sutton will make the switch from single-seaters to touring cars next season, joining BTCC outfit Team BMR in the Renault UK Clio Cup.

Sutton is the first driver confirmed for BMR for their first season in the one-make series, and he enters the category after a hugely impressive campaign in Formula Ford GB last year.

Despite missing the Donington Park weekend and an early change of teams, five wins took Sutton to third in the championship standings.

Rather than move up the single-seater ladder in 2015, 20 year old Sutton has made the decision to return to his tin-top roots, having raced a Ford Fiesta back in 2011.

“I’ve always wanted to move into a touring car and tested a Clio before racing the Fiesta but budget prevented it at the time,” Sutton told Motorsport News.

“I need to gain more front-wheel drive and tin-top experience and the Clio Cup will give me just that.”
