Zele Racing confirm Colombian Mendez for 2015 Auto GP season

1 Mins read

Zele Racing have become the first team to announce a driver for the 2015 Auto GP World Series season after confirming Colombian driver Andres Mendez.

The twenty-two-year-old from Bogota was previously a member of the Ferrari Driver Academy having been discovered by former Grand Prix race and multiple Le Mans winner Allan McNish.

He has experience of single-seater racing, having raced in the Star Mazda Championship in the United States during 2012, before moving into Europe and into the Formula Renault 2.0 NEC championship in 2013. Last season he was racing in the German Formula 3 championship.

“I am very excited to drive a V8-powered car this year,” said Mendez. “The AutoGP cars have less electronics, so the driver is more important. I am sure, I can learn a lot at Zele Racing and grateful for this opportunity”.

Team Principal Michael Zele believes Mendez is looking forward to seeing Mendez driving in Auto GP during 2015 and believes the Colombian has a lot of promise.

“I’m pleased to welcome Andrès on board our AutoGP team,” said Zele. “He has a lot of potential and we’re looking forward to working with him”.
