Antonio Pizzonia got the jump on pole sitter Facu Regalia at the start and never looked back to take his second victory of the 2015 Auto GP season in race one at Silverstone.
The Zele Racing driver extended his championship lead in the process, taking the chequered flag at the end of a race reduced first to ten laps and then to nine when Paolo Coloni Racing’s Christof von Grünigen stalled on the grid.
Unfortunately for von Grünigen, he was unable to start the race, with his car being pushed away as the race began.
FMS Racing’s Regalia was also jumped by the second Zele Racing machine of Luis Sa Silva into the first corner, but the Argentine driver fought his way passed the Angola driver around the outside of Copse corner at the start of lap two.
Despite threatening to take the fight to Pizzonia once he was passed Sa Silva, Regalia was unable to keep pace, with the Argentine driver ending the race 9.521s behind.
Sa Silva was forced to hold off the challenge of the sole Virtuosi UK entry this weekend of Russian Nikita Zlobin, but the Zele Racing driver was able to hold on to take the final spot on the podium.
Ibiza Racing Team’s Giuseppe Cipriani jumped ahead of Zele Racing’s Andres Mendez at the start to take fifth in an otherwise quiet race for the pair.
