Anton Spires will make his Michelin Clio Cup Series return at Oulton Park next weekend with a debut appearance in the Race Series with Paint Perfect Motorsport.
The outing comes after more than eleven months on the sidelines for Spires, who was unable to raise the budget required for a full campaign this year after dominating the Road class last season with Westbourne Motorsport.
Spires has been working with Paint Perfect Motorsport this season as a driver coach for Road Series competitor John Creasey, and will now join him as a team-mate as the outfit make their first entry into the Race Series in a third-generation Clio race car.
The deal, which has come together thanks to a share scheme launched by the team at the last rounds at Croft, will see Spires on the grid for the final two rounds of this season, and for 2016 as well.
“It’s fantastic we can finally confirm things,” said Spires. “We kind of knew at the end of last season we might end up having to take a year out from racing, but obviously the partnership with John [Creasey] started and its through his sponsors and the share scheme we’re on the grid now.
“I’ve got to say a huge thank you to Paint Perfect Motorsport, John and everyone involved in the team – it’s all down to them. The whole package includes next year so the aim is to have some good races at Oulton and Silverstone, see where I am and then have a good testing programme over the winter. I know Oulton and do like the track so I’m really looking forward to next weekend.”
