Ginetta GT5 Challenge To Make BTCC Package Debut In 2016

1 Mins read

The Protyre Motorsport Ginetta GT5 Challenge will make its debut on the Dunlop MSA British Touring Car Championship support package next season, replacing the Michelin Ginetta GT4 Supercup at two meetings.

The GT5 Challenge, which regularly supports the Avon Tyres British GT Championship across Britain and its annual overseas round, will make appearances at Thruxton (07/08 May) and Croft (18/19 June) alongside the Ginetta Junior Championship, the first time the series has visited either of the circuits.

The GT4 Supercup will be condensed to an eight weekend championship in the process, though it has not yet been determined how many races it will be contested over, with the possible option of expanding the current two-race weekends to triple-headers to match the rest of the schedule.

The changes come following discussions with TOCA last week and are designed to bridge the gap between the GT5 Challenge and the GT4 Supercup, whilst also increasing exposure for the Challenge and reducing the cost of a full season in the Supercup.
