Expanded 25 Race Calendar For 2016 Ginetta Junior Championship

1 Mins read

The Ginetta Junior Championship will feature five triple-header meetings next season as part of an expanded 25 race calendar for the BTCC support championship.

Three races will be held at Donington Park, Croft, Knockhill, Rockingham and Silverstone, with double-headers at both Brands Hatch meetings, Thruxton, Oulton Park and Snetterton.

It will be the most races the championship has ever been contested over, Dino Zamparelli having emerged as champion from a 24 race series in 2008.

Only once previously has the championship contested a triple-header meeting meanwhile, the 2007 season finale at Brands Hatch.

The triple-header meetings next season will see the traditional Saturday morning free practice session replaced by the third race.

Other changes for 2016 includes the addition of a testing restriction to try and control season costs, whilst the end-of-season prizes have also been confirmed.

The 2016 champion will receive the use of a Ginetta G55 GT4 for the 2017 Ginetta GT4 Supercup, with the vice-champion earning 50% off the entry free to any Ginetta championship in 2017.

The third placed driver overall and the Rookie Cup champion meanwhile will receive £2,500 and £1,500 worth of Ginetta Parts credit respectively.
