Volkswagen has unveiled a fresh look for both Tanner Foust and Scott Speed‘s Volkswagen Andretti Rallycross Beetles for the 2017 Red Bull Global Rallycross season at the Chicago Auto Show.
Both drivers feature new major backers for this season with all terrain vehicle manufacturer Polaris featuring prominently on Foust’s car while Speed will sport the colours of Oberto for this season after being backed by the Beef and turkey jerky brand during the latter stages of last year.
In a change from previous Red Bull GRC seasons, Foust’s car features considerably less yellow, with black and grey dominating the look of the car, although Rockstar Energy Drink remains the two-time champion’s primary sponsor.
Meanwhile Speed’s car is reminiscent of the livery he sported in Seattle last year with a red front and green rear being separated by a while mid-section. It is the first time Speed has had a full-season primary sponsor since 2014 when he ran with the colours of soft drink brand 7Up. Since then the car has mostly ran a Volkswagen livery similar to the company’s World Rally Championship entries, with sponsors appearing on a race-by-race basis.
“Joining Scott and the VARX team was an easy decision for us,” said Oberto President and CEO Tom Hernquist. “Scott is an amazing athlete, winning back to back GRC championships and then spending his off-season competing in triathlons and running Race of Champions – we can’t wait to join the team and chase that third championship.”
“We’re excited to welcome Oberto and Circle K as primary sponsors for Scott’s VW Beetle GRC,” added team boss Michael Andretti. “We’ve seen some great initial success with Oberto as a partner in 2016, and I have no doubt that Scott and the VARX team will continue the momentum into this coming season.”
The Chicago Auto Show begins this weekend and runs until February 20.
