Plans for the 2010 Formula Renault BARC Championship have been unvealed with organisers announcing it’s new look series with an aim to reduce competitor costs.
In 2009 the series was held over 13 rounds on seven circuits, for next year the series will visit six circuits with two rounds run over the weekend, giving the teams and drivers almost the same amount of track time, but cutting down costs during the current economic climate.
With a pre-season test set to take place on 8 April on the National circuit at Silverstone, the season will kick off at Brands Hatch on 17th April before visiting Silverstone, Croft, Snetterton, Rockingham and finishing at Thruxton.
Another addition to the 2010 season will see the new Tatuss-built car, featuring a slightly different bodywork, but running alongside the current BARC cars albeit in a one-class championship.
Protyre Formula Renault BARC Promoter Simon North said: “BARC and Renault Sport UK expect that by reducing the number of circuits visited in 2010 we can limit the costs incurred by teams and thus ensure that the Championship remains true to its low-cost roots.”
He added: “With the outgoing Formula Renault UK car eligible to run in the BARC series next year we're expecting a great deal of interest which is why we've put together a calendar which is both cost-effective yet doesn't compromise on track time.”
