Weichers Sport has confirmed that Moroccan Mehdi Bennani will compete in the 2010 World Touring Car Championship at the wheel of a BMW 320Si.
Bennani, who made his debut at the wheel of an Exagon Engineering Seat Leon in Marrakesh last year, and who took his maiden Independents win in the first race at Marrakesh, has signed to complete a full season with the team. In his part season, Bennani was classified 8th in the Yokohama Independents trophy, with 30 points. His best result overall was a double 9th place at Marrakesh.
Aly Horma, the Marrakesh Grand Prix President commented on the announcement: “We are delighted that Mehdi will be able to do the entire season with Wiechers-Sport. As the only Moroccan driver in a world championship, he will be carrying high the colours of Morocco on the world’s most prestigious circuits”
Weichers Sport team boss Dominik Greiner is delighted to have secured the services of Bennani: “We are very pleased that Mehdi Bennani has joined Wiechers-Sport. From his very first laps in the WTCC, he proved to be very competitive. Our common aim is a place on the podium of the 2010 Yokohama Independents’ Trophy,”
