This week saw the first test session for the brand new Formula Renault 2.0 race car at the South Wales track of Pembrey.
Current Formula Renault UK Champion Dean Smith took to the wheel of the 210bhp car during the private test, with Manor Competition Team Manager Tony Shaw commenting “The test went really well and we're very happy with the car and its build quality. Dean racked up around 75 laps in the new car on a wet track and it ran well throughout. He was happy with how the car drove and, although we had no official times, we all got the impression that it was running pretty quick.”
This week also saw other drivers getting a taste of the 2010 spec car at Rockingham these included Oli Webb for Fortec Motorsport, Dean Stoneman for Firstairs, new ATECH GP signing Nick Yelloly, CRS engineering running Michael Lyons and Mark Burdett Motorsport putting Robbie Kerr in control.
The new car features a seven-speed paddle-shift sequential gearbox for the first time plus a more powerful 2.0-litre engine.
The opening rounds of the 2010 Michelin Formula Renault UK Championship take place at Hampshire's Thruxton circuit on 3rd/4th April.
