Rangoni Motorsport announce Superstars Programme

1 Mins read

Rangoni Motorsport have announced that they are to run 3 former World Touring Car Championship runners in a 3 car team in the Superstars Series.

Luca Rangoni, a WTCC Podium finisher at Zandvoort in 2007, Davide Roda and Emanuele Naspetti will each be racing a German sportscar, the Mercedes C63 AMG.

The Bologna based outfit have got a 3 year deal programme with the cars, which has been sanctioned by Roma Formula Futuro, to run the cars.

All the racing activity of Rangoni Motorsport will be focused on the Superstars Series, both the Italian series as well as the International series. Both campaigns start at Monza on the 27th and 28th March.

Rangoni has previous experience of racing in the Superstars series, having won on both occasions he has taken part in the series, in 2008 at the Italian track of Varano and in 2009 at Kyalami. These Superstars wins came at the wheel of a BMW M3 and an Audi RS4. Rangoni is also a co-owner of the team.

Rangoni finished runner up in the Italian Porsche Carerra Cup Championship in 2009.

For Naspetti and Roda, this season will see their Superstars Series debut – and alongside Rangoni, Naspetti is expected to be a front runner.

Naspetti will also be joining the grid with fellow Formula One drivers Gianni Morbidelli, Mimmo Schiattarella and Andrea Chiesa. Morbidelli is also a former WTCC Racer for Alfa Romeo.

Naspetti, 41, took the honours in the Italian F3 series at the end of the 1980's, and the Italian Super Touring Car Series in 1997. He competed in 6 Formula One Grand Prix for March and Jordan between 1992 and 1993.

38 year old Davide Roda, who made a one off WTCC appearance in 2007 alongside Rangoni at Brno, has plenty of experience in single make racing series.
