Romanov rejoins Engstler in WTCC

1 Mins read

Two years after their last WTCC race together, Russian driver Andrei Romanov will once again partner Liqui Moly Team Engstler Team Principle Franz Engstler in the 2010 FIA World Touring Car Championship.

Engstler and Romanov were team mates during the 2008 campaign, racing a pair of BMW's in the Yokohama Independents Trophy, and the duo secured second in the teams Championship, while Engstler took a single independents win en route to second in the Yokohama Independents Championship, while Romanov finished the Championship in fifth. 2008 was the debut season in the WTCC for the Liqui Moly Team Engstler outfit.

2009 saw Romanov return to the German ADAC where he took 3 race victories at the wheel of a Chevrolet Lacetti, while Engstler was taking third in the WTCC Independents Championship, with a brace of wins and what could have been an outright race win, before being taken out by the Safety Car. Engstler also competed in the one off FIA European Touring Car Cup, at Braga in Portugal. Engstler finished second overall behind James Thompson.

“Andrei has always had ambitions, now we can benefit from his 2008 experience and go together as a strong team into the championship,” said Engstler, about the confirmation of Romanov re-joining the team.
