Tama's Pa'l Kiss, the young Hungarian driver racing for ATech GP in this year's Formula Renault UK Championship has set the testing pace after the most recent test at Silverstone.
Pa'l Kiss's best time during the one day test was a second quicker than the old Formula Renault UK fastest lap, set by James Calado, Pa'l Kiss lapped the 1.64 mile Northamptonshire track in a time of 53.374 seconds, compared to the 54.386 second lap of Calado. Pa'l Kiss said about bettering the lap record: “I'm delighted with the time and with the effort and support of the team, and it's boosted my confidence ahead of the season opener. I'm really enjoying the new car too as it suits my style of driving more. In the old car you had to fight with the steering around Silverstone but you don't get that with the new one. I just hope we can continue this progress into the Rockingham test next week.”
The morning session saw Exeter youngster Harry Tincknell set the pace, just ahead of Pa'l Kiss and the Manor Competition pair of Lewis Williamson (Golspie) and Will Stevens (Oxshott).
The fastest of the graduate cup runners during the morning session was Alex Lynn; the Fortec Motorsport racer set the 9th fastest time, with a time of 54.327 seconds.
The afternoon session saw Pa'l Kiss end the session top of the times, and set his best time on his 38th lap, on fresh rubber. Manor drivers Williamson and Stevens both improved their times, but they were unable to match the pace shown by Pa'l Kiss.
The fastest graduate cup runner in session 2 was young Brazilian driver Fabio Gamberini, and his fastest time in the session meant that he was an impressive eighth overall, 0.604 seconds off the best time of the day.
Fellow Formula Renault graduates, CRS Racing's Robert Foster Jones and Manor Competition's Josh Mullholland also set times fastest enough to get themselves in the top 10 overall.
The Silverstone test also provided the latest confirmed entrants into the 2010 Championship a chance to get some track time, including Joe Crook who has joined Scorpio Motorsport and Chrissy Palmer, who has completed Fortec Motorsport's 4 car team.
The next official Formula Renault UK test takes place at the Rockingham Motor Speedway, to continue the preparations for the opening rounds of the 2010 Championship, at the high speed Thruxton circuit in Hampshire on the 3rd and 4th April.
