The Italian Superstars field will be bolstered with the addition of a brand new Porsche Panamera S, which is being built and developed by former WTCC outfit N.Technology.
The German machine, when it hits the track at the first event outside of Italy, at the Portuguese track of Portimao, will bring the number of different brands in the 500bhp series to eight – Audi, BMW, Cadillac, Chevrolet, Jaguar, Maserati and Mercedes are already represented in the Championship.
The car will be piloted by Portuguese GT ace Joao Barbosa. Barbosa won the recent Daytona 24 hour's race at the wheel of a Porsche powered race car.
The car will make its debut during the fourth event of the 2010 campaign, on the 23rd May. Barbosa will also be involved with the development work of the car, as a test driver.
On the confirmation of the deal, Joao said: “The program with N.Technology and Porsche Panamera S is a great opportunity. It allows me to continue my involvement with Porsche whilst developing a strong working relationship with N.Technology. As a professional driver, I know how important it is to be involved in major projects with a long-term future and I believe that the combination of Porsche and N.Technology is one of them. It will be a great pleasure to contribute to the development of the Porsche Panamera S, working closely with N.Technology staff. We will do everything to be competitive from Portimao, my home race, onwards.”
With the addition of Barbosa to the already impressive 2010 Superstars grid, the season ahead looks to be the most competitive yet, in terms of driver performances and the competitiveness of all the entered cars.
