Pole for the first race of the Superstars weekend at Imola has gone the way of the Audi RS4 of former open wheel racer Alberto Cola.
The twenty three year old topped the times with fellow Hop Mobile Audi Sport Italia team mates Ermanno Dionisio and Roberto Papini backing him up as the Four Wheel Drive RS4 cars coped with the wet conditions.
Behind the top three, current Champion Gianni Morbidelli led home a train a BMW M3 E92's of BMW Team Italia team mates, Thomas Biagi, Luca Cappellari and Stefano Gabellini.
The track conditions caused a number of drivers to have mishaps during the session – Matteo Cressoni stopped out at Variante Alta while Nico Caldarola, Marco Gregori and Filippo Zadotti all suffered problems.
Monza dominator Luigi Ferrara set the tenth fastest time in his Mercedes AMG C63, appeared satisfied with the result having missed out on valuable track time after suffering gearbox and differentials issues. Ferrara is looking forward to a recovery drive.
Ahead of Ferrara on the grid are Roberto Russo of Top Run Racing and the Motorzone Race Car Chevrolet Lumina CR8 of former F1 driver Johnny Herbert.
