Superstars debutant Thomas Biagi recorded two fourth place finishes during his Superstars debut at the wheel of a BMW M3 E92 round the super quick Italian track of Monza.
Biagi, who raced in GT's before the switch to the Italian based V8 Superstars series, qualified 4th on the grid for his debut, a position which he held during the whole of the opening race of the weekend, to claim points on his maiden race.
Race 2 saw the top 8 cars reversed, which meant that Biagi would be starting fifth. At the start, he dropped back down to ninth place, and after this started to work his way back up the field. Lap by lap, Biagi recovered and showed a determination to fight his way to the front, and at the end of the second race, had recovered another fourth place finish.
Speaking after his maiden Superstars appearance, Biagi said: “The outcome of my weekend is fairly positive: the present superiority of Mercedes on straights weighed heavily on a fast circuit like Monza. For this reason, two four places can be considered a good result at the end of the day.
I was at my debut in the Superstars Series and during the weekend I worked quite a lot with technicians of the team to lay the foundations of the development that we have to undertake in the coming weeks. We have a great potential and I believe that the championship can have good satisfactions for us”.
After the first two races of the season, Biagi is third on 20 points, 23 points behind the Mercedes AMG C63 driver Luigi Ferrara. Biagi is currently the top BMW driver in the Championship. The next round of the season takes place at Imola on the 18th April.
