Gabriele Tarquini has inherited victory in Zolder’s first WTCC race, after team-mate Jordi Gene‘s SEAT Leon TDI was found to have an illegal air restrictor.
After escaping the wrath of the stewards for a marginal start, in which he nearly passed Tarquini before the start/finish line, he eased to victory in the first race of the day.
Gene’s turbo failure before the start of Race 2 means he leaves Belgium point-less, and languishing in 9th overall so far this season. Meanwhile Tarquini leapfrogs Priaulx in the standings to 2nd place, 19 points behind Yvan Muller.
