Benjamin Bailly continued his impressive run of form to take the top spot on the timesheets in both practice sessions for Rounds 9 & 10 of the FIA F2 World Championship. Bailly brings with him the form that won him Race 2 last time out in Zolder.
The Belgian topped the first session a clear eight tenths ahead of the rest of the pack and in the second session Brit Jack Clarke came close to toppling Bailly, falling short by just 0.034 seconds. Kazim Vasiliauskas was third with the Brit pairing of Jolyon Palmer and Will Bratt rounding out the top five.
The second session was much closer, so much so that the top five drivers were separated by less than two tenths of a second.
The impressive Angolan Ricardo Teixeira was sixth in session two, closely followed by Nicola Di Marco, less than three hundreths of a second behind in seventh. Ivan Samarin was over half a second off the pace but managed to stay in eighth. Dean Stoneman, who went off track later on in the session, finished in ninth and Kevin Snoeks rounded out the top ten, almost a second off the pace.
It wasn’t an easy session for some of the drivers. Sergey Afanasiev had to recover early on after going off-road at turn four eventually finishing eleventh and Plamen Kralev spun at turn five on the technical Portimao circuit.
