Seb Morris took his tenth win of the season during the latest rounds of the Ginetta Junior Championship at Knockhill to edge himself closer to the 2011 title, the Hillspeed driver now lying 100 points clear of his nearest rival with six races remaining.
Welsh teenager Morris put in a superb performance during Saturday's Round Thirteen, a good start from second place on the grid seeing him pressure the early race leader into a mistake. The 15 year old put in some good early laps to build a three second lead of his closest challenger when the safety car came out. At the restart, he was able to control the race once more to cruise home for his eleventh podium in fourteen races this season.
Morris said: “I just tried to keep my head, not focus on what was going on behind me and instead concentrate on my own lap times – I treated it like a qualifying run really once I got the lead. I pulled away well and then the Safety Car came out! George really heated his tyres up well before the re-start, I was a bit more conservative, and he did catch me up a bit. But I knew I had it in hand.”
Sunday's Round Fourteen proved to be much tougher for the Liberty Properties and Legat Owen-backed driver, as he became embroiled in mid-pack tussling. Morris had started on the front row and ran second early on, but a moment on lap two dropped him to eighth. He worked his way to sixth before a short safety car period and at the restart battled his way into fourth, challenging for third, when he was bundled back to sixth at the Hairpin, where he eventually finished.
The top six finish though still gives Morris healthy points, meaning he heads into the remaining six races with a substantial advantage in the points as he looks to add the main Junior title to the Winters Series he claimed back in November.
