Freddy Loix leads fellow Skoda driver Andreas Mikkelsen by just 2.7 seconds after the first day of Rallye Sanremo.

Skoda UK driver Mikkelsen was lead through the opening six stages but lost out to BFO Skoda driver Loix when the Belgian won the final 44 kilometre Ronde night stage by 7.2s.

Thierry Neuville had been right behind his fellow Belgian Loix going into Ronde but suffered from overheating brakes and has fallen to 16.6s off the lead. He is just 1.2s ahead of fellow Peugeot driver Bryan Bouffier.

Points leader Jan Kopecky is fifth in his factory Skoda, ahead of Bruno Magalhaes and local Ford driver Umberto Scandola. Another Italian, Alessandro Perico is eighth, just 0.4s ahead of Pierre Campana after climbing up from 12th on Ronde. Toni Gardemeister completes the top ten in his Skoda.

Guy Wilks continued his horrid run of form for Peugeot UK when he hit a bridge parapet on the opening stage and smashed his front-left wheel, forcing him into retirement.
