Rising talent Anton Spires is set to make his Protyre Formula Renault BARC Championship debut at Silverstone next month with KG Motorsport, before contesting a full campaign in the competitive single-seater series in 2012.
Spires, the 2008 Rookie of the Year in the SaxMax Championship, moved into single seaters in 2010 and finished fourth in the Autosport Young Guns series, taking one win, before taking part in two rounds of the rebranded 'Intersteps Championship' earlier this season.
The Buckinghamshire racer called time on his involvement in Intersteps to seek an alternative path up the racing ladder and went on to test a Formula Renault 2.0 machine ahead of his move into the BARC series, which is being made possible thanks to backing from AA Drivetech.
19 year old Spires said: “We looked at various routes for my career and saw Formula Renault BARC as the best option, both for the racing and for the budget. I did Intersteps earlier in the year but didn't like the championship so we're looking to do the final round of BARC and then put together a full season next year.
“AA Drivetech is backing me for my debut but, with it being at my local track, we're hopeful we can try and attract some more local sponsors to get involved. We are limited on funds, I've only had two tests in the car at Donington and Brands Hatch, but I will have two more days before the races. I'm feeling pretty confident and definitely looking forward to it.”
