Dunlop MSA Formula Ford of Great Britain regular Dan de Zille is eyeing up a move to Formula Renault for 2012 after confirming he will team up with Fortec Motorsport to do the Formula Renault Winter Series this November.
After three years of Formula Ford and some successful sportscar racing results, Dan has set his sights on testing his skills at a higher level. The winter series offers de Zille the chance to have three days testing in the car before a six race calendar, four at Snetterton on the first weekend of November and two a week later at Rockingham.
After his seat fitting last week, de Zille said: “I am very excited about the Renault Winter Series, Fortec have a good reputation and I am looking forward to the new challenge, new faces and learning all about the new car, testing my driving ability on a higher level.”
Richard Dutton of Fortec commented: “The Winter Series is a great opportunity for drivers to get a feel for the Renault Championships and learn to qualify and start. The main difference with the car is getting used to the down-force, the Formula Ford cars have no downforce and the Formula Renault cars have both slicks and wings.
“Since Dan was a front runner in Formula Ford, I see no reason why he should not do just as well in Formula Renault, there will be plenty of data to look at and he will have strong teammates to compare against, he will also have the same technician working alongside him throughout whom he can trust and rely on.”
De Zille is the second Formula Ford driver to announce a switch to Formula Renault recently, with his regular JTR team-mate Geoff Uhrhane joining the Formula Renault UK series last weekend.
