Former GP2 Series driver Hiroki Yoshimoto will make his World Touring Car Championship at his forthcoming home round at Suzuka in Japan. The 31-year-old will drive a seventh Sunred Leon 1.6T at the races on 23rd October.

Yoshimoto raced in GP2 for BCN Competition in 2005 and 2006, with best results of second at Magny-Cours in 2005 and third at Imola in 2006. He returned to the category to contest the Asia Series in early 2008 with the Meritus team, and then raced for BCN in the opening round of the 2008-09 Asia Series, before the team was bought by Tiago Monteiro (who will incidentally be one of Yoshimoto's teammates at Suzuka).

More recently he has been driving an Aston Martin in the Japanese Super GT series.

“I'm really excited to join such a successful team as SUNRED in such a competitive championship as WTCC,” he said. “I have to thank my sponsors SDI and Dechau for giving me this opportunity and I will do my best to be up to the task for the races at Suzuka.”
