Lada are looking at making a full return to the World Touring Car Championship in 2013, and will enter two rounds of the 2012 season in preparation.
The Russian car brand will be represented by the TMS operation at the Hungarian and Portuguese rounds of the 2012 season, running a new Lada Granta Sport car.
Lada first appeared in the WTCC in 2008 with Lada 110 models entered under the Russian Bears Motorsport banner, with Jaap van Lagen, Kirill Ladygin and team principal Viktor Shapopalov driving. The team then ran the factory-entered Lada Sport team in 2009, with James Thompson joining the team mid-season as they introduced the new Priora model. The Briton scored two sixth-place finishes at Imola.
Since then the Lada Granta Cup has been created – the car providing the basis for the vehicle they will use for their return.
