Former GP2 Series driver and World Touring Car Championship race-winner Felix Porteiro is set to race in the Superstars Series in 2012 for a new family-run squad called Team Porteiro.

The Spanish team have entered two BMWs for next season, where they will have support from the Spanish arm of the German car marque. Testing is already underway, with 28-year-old Felix – who raced BMWs in the WTCC from 2007 to 2009 – set to lead the team's driver lineup.

“We rounded out a test at the Alcarrás circuit and we immediately hit great results that raised our hopes for the 2012 season,” said team owner Santiago Porteiro. “Three drivers already tested with us including Salvador Tineo, Antonio De La Reina and female racer Carmen Boix. We’re working to improve ourself on a day-by-day basis.”

Tineo has previously raced in the Spanish Mini Challenge, while De La Reina has previously raced in the Spanish SEAT Supercopa and in 2011 raced in the Superstars GT Sprint series. Boix meanwhile still races in karting.
