Proteam have confirmed that Javier Villa will remain with the team for a second World Touring Car Championship season.

Former GP2 racer Villa contested his first WTCC campaign in 2011 behind the wheel of one of Proteam's BMW 320TC cars.

The 24-year-old Spaniard scored a best overall result of third in Hungary, and was classified 12th in the final standings. In the Yokohama Trophy for independent drivers, he scored one win at the season opener in Brazil and finished fifth in the standings.

Proteam will have an entirely unchanged driver lineup for this season, with both Villa and Mehdi Bennani remaining with the team.

“We are happy to announce that, after negotiations taking place in recent months, Proteam confirm Javier Villa as a driver for this year,” said the team.

“Therefore as in 2011, this year Proteam Racing will be represented by Mehdi Bennani and Javier Villa. We have great expectations for both after the promising results of last season.”
